Holiday Traditions
As the holidays near, most people are reminded of the traditions that they look forward to sharing with family members and close friends. This year, things may be different but the Bagwell & Bagwell team is still excited to share the season of merriment and togetherness with their loved ones. Some of our favorite traditions include exchanging gifts, enjoying a potluck dinner, and watching a classic Christmas movie!
Yvette: My sisters and I spend Thanksgiving together with our Mom in Littleton. We spend Christmas at home or with in-laws and significant others and their families. During Thanksgiving, we draw names (even the kids although they get gifts from the adults as well) and ship gifts to each other to open Christmas day.
Clark: Kate, my middle sister, was born on Christmas day so we celebrate until noon on Christmas day and then it turns into Kate’s birthday. I love that my parents were able to come up with a solution that made her feel special as a Christmas baby. We get to enjoy Moravian sugar cake, turtle hall cake, and birthday cake on the same day!
Samantha: Our Christmas meal is usually a ton of covered dishes. We have some form of meat, usually turkey and ham, and a ton of sides. My sister has requested chicken casserole, sausage balls, and macaroni salad this year for Christmas which are usually items on the menu. My family usually attends the 5 pm church service on Christmas Eve and on Christmas morning we have breakfast and exchange gifts.
Angie: With the onset of a third-generation (my youngest brother’s kids) in the last few years, my family has adopted a newer tradition of doing a Secret Santa gift exchange for (only) the adults and then getting each child gifts, instead of everyone buying for everyone, and we also do a gag or goofy white elephant gift exchange for the adults too. Also, our Christmas meal is typically a homemade Italian meal. Mangia!
Kyle: We watch It’s a Wonderful Life prior to attending midnight mass.
Johnna: My favorite holiday tradition would be going to my parents’ house and having everyone under the same roof. Now that I have nephews, my sisters and I stay up late and put their gifts from Santa out. I love getting to see their reactions on Christmas morning. Then the whole family eats breakfast and we exchange more gifts before we split up to visit other family members.
Laura: My family traditions are not all that exciting, but we usually go to Christmas Eve service, and then we do gifts on Christmas morning.
